Fremont County Waste Transfer Station

Project Summary

A reputable engineering firm, Burns & McDonnell, is overseeing the design of an expansion to the designed waste transfer station located in Lander, WY. The Fremont County Landfill is expected to reach capacity by 2028 and will need a larger waste transfer station to manage waste. Our task is to work with Burns and McDonell to design components of this new expansion to the transfer station including a sanitary sewer and water connection to the City of Lander, site grading surrounding the new expansion of the building and for the road that will need to be moved to accommodate the expansion, and storm water management of the newly graded area.

Design Goal

The primary objective is site grading for the new addition, determining the best route for water and sanitary connection, stormwater management, and creating DWGS of designs for the client to consider different alternatives.

Design Constraints

  • Must be completed in accordance with County and State standards and requirements.
  • Water and sanitary connections will be to the existing City of Lander infrastructure and must be designed in accordance with their design standards.
  • Grade must be kept at 3:1 for the road and around the building.
  • Extension of the parking lot influenced the design and made it more difficult, especially the area next to the building.
  • When the road was offset 20’ to the East of the site, the grade to the parking lot was impacted.
