Engineering Leadership with Impact

Graduate Certificate in Engineering Leadership

This certificate is designed to meet the needs of professionals seeking to improve their skills in effectively leading, mentoring, and managing people in technologically oriented organizations. The program is ideal for those preparing for a new role or managerial position. Students will gain expertise and proficiency in a variety of topics necessary to thrive in today’s diverse, multi-disciplinary environment, fostering excellence in their staff and peers while helping their organizations to navigate today’s complex, interconnected world.

Students have the option to count coursework from their graduate certificate if they continue in a M.S. in Engineering Management degree offered through the School of Engineering at the University of St. Thomas.

Graduate Certificate Requirements

To complete the requirements for the Graduate Certificate in Engineering Leadership, students must successfully complete five courses (15 graduate semester credits) and maintain a GPS of at least 2.7.

Complete these three required courses (9 credits):

  • ETLS 660 Engineering Leadership
  • ETLS 601 Program/Project/Team Management
  • ETLS 551 Organizational Performance Excellence
    or ETLS 640 Lean Six Sigma

Choose two courses from the electives listed below (6 credits):

  • ETLS 552 Supply Chain Synchronization & Forecasting
  • ETLS 525 Engineering Economics
  • ETLS 657 Product Lifecycle Management

Brad Reinboldt

Brad Reinboldt is the current program director of the M.S. in Engineering Management program at St. Thomas. Brad has over 20 years experience in the information systems arena with expertise in the computing, networking, and storage sectors. He has held development and technical management roles in companies ranging from start-ups to multi-billion-dollar organizations. This includes high-speed memory subsystem designer for IBM mainframes, product engineer at Seagate Technology in disk drive head design, and more.

Ted Ellefson

Ted Ellefson is currently the Business Process Management Lead at Seagate Technology focused on Functional Excellence for the R&D organization. In his work, Ted aligns and harmonizes ISO, Baldrige Framework, and Business Continuity activities to ensure continuous improvement of Seagate business processes. He is a Certified Lean Master and Six Sigma Master Black Belt. Major, Military Intelligence, Minnesota Army National Guard -- Commanded a company with 110 employees.

Dave Brucks

Dave Brucks is currently the Global Quality Continuous Improvement Director at Entegris. He is very experienced in teaching and applying the Baldrige Performance Excellence framework, Quality Management Systems and other continuous improvement tools. Previously, Dave worked at Seagate Technology, as Executive Director of Functional Excellence. Also Baldrige Executive Fellow, National Baldrige Examiner, and MN/ND/Sd Performance Excellence Network – Performance Excellence Award evaluator.
