Radio Drive Corridor Improvement

Project Summary

The project addresses the critical need for updating a portion of County State Aid Highway (CSAH) 13 running north from Military Road to Hargis parkway, located in the City of Woodbury in Washington County, MN. The current two-lane corridor is inadequate for the increasing traffic and residential development in the areas surrounding Radio Drive. Additionally, the Dale Road intersection along Radio Drive has temporarily been converted to an all-way stop due to the challenges and dangers faced when turning onto Radio Drive. This all-way stop is inadequate due to safety concerns and the traffic volume on Radio Drive.

Design Goal

The goal of the Radio Drive Corridor Improvement Project is to provide a community friendly solution that will help support the increases in traffic and provide pedestrian accessibility and safety. Two conceptual plans were created and compared to determine the most efficient and safest option for both cars and pedestrians that use the Radio Drive corridor.

Design Constraints

  • LIMITED RIGHT OF WAY: The county must purchase more property to fit the proposed Dale Road intersection and roadway.
  • SAFETY: Pedestrian and vehicle safety is the top priority in this project.
  • ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: The project must not negatively impact existing watersheds or drainage areas.
  • CONTINUOUS TRAFFIC FLOW: Radio Drive must remain open during the construction period due to traffic volume and lack of a convenient detour route.
